Setting Up Your Filter
In most cases, you can install your new filter straight away without any issues. However, I recommend preparing it first to prevent airlocks, slow filtration, carbon specks and an unusual taste.
Some of the common problems with a new filter are listed below and can be resolved 9 times out of ten by following the steps in this blog post.Â
Slow or no filtration:Â Your cartridge should be filtering approximately the amount of water that is recommended for your choice of filter, this will be written on the box that the filter came in. If your system isn't filtering this amount, it most likely has a airlock or blockage from the carbon that is inside the filter
Black carbon specks:Â Carbon specks can be found in the bottom of the purifier, these are harmless and are no cause for alarm. If there are a lot or causing worry, this can be resolved by following the steps below.Â
Unusual taste:Â If there is a taste other than clean beautiful water, this taste is coming for your new filter cartridge not your ceramic unit. The taste likely the PH of the water and can be resolved by soaking the filter.Â
Preparing Your Filter
- Give the filter a firm shake to loosen any trapped air or carbon dust.
- Place the filter upside down in a jug or container of water.
- Important: Keep the stem out of the water.
- Leave it to soak for 12–24 hours, topping up the water as needed to keep the white part submerged.
- After soaking, give it another good shake to clear any remaining air pockets.
- Install the filter in your ceramic unit—filtration should be around 900ml per hour (or whatever amount is listed on the manufacturers box).
- Run 2 litres of water through the filter and discard it. Your purifier is now ready to use!
Following these steps will ensure your filter works efficiently, giving you fresh, clean water every day! 💧
