Cleaning Your Carbon Filter

Cleaning Your Carbon Filter

Keeping your carbon filter clean is essential for maintaining the quality of your purified water. Carbon filters play a vital role in removing impurities and enhancing the taste and odour of your water. The time in between cleaning will vary, depending of the quality of the water supply.  I typically clean mine once every few months, however, in some areas cleaning might need to happen monthly. In this blog post, we will guide you through the process of effectively cleaning your carbon filter using a scourer. By following these steps, you can ensure your filter continues to provide you with fresh, purified water. Let's dive in!

Step 1: Gather Your Supplies Before starting the cleaning process, gather the following supplies:

  • Scourer or scrub brush (some people prefer to use a back of a knife)
  • Clean water
  • Dry cloth

Step 2: Remove the carbon filter from your purifier, by unscrewing it from the infit. Ensure that the infit and filter doesn't roll away when you place them on the bench. I usually put mine in the sink or on a tea towel. Please handle your filter with care, the filter is usually chalk-like and brittle, it can snap if handled too roughly.

Step 3: Inspect the filter carefully, examine the carbon filter for any visible signs of debris, discoloration, or clogging. Over time, impurities can accumulate on the filter, reducing its effectiveness.

Step 4: Clean the Carbon Filter Using a scourer or scrub brush, gently scrub the surface of the carbon filter. Apply moderate pressure to remove any sediment, dirt, or impurities.

Step 5: Rinse thoroughly Once you have scrubbed the filter, rinse it thoroughly with clean water. Hold the filter under a running tap or immerse it in a basin of water, ensuring that all sides are thoroughly rinsed.

Step 6: Dry the filter after rinsing, pat the carbon filter gently with a soft cloth to remove excess water. Avoid squeezing or twisting the filter, as it could damage the delicate carbon particles.

Step 7: Test once the filter has been carefully screwed back into the filtration system. Once installed, run water through the system and observe the quality, taste, and odour of the filtered water. If you notice any issues, repeat the cleaning process or consider replacing the filter.

Conclusion: Regularly cleaning your carbon filter ensures the continued delivery of fresh and purified water. By following the steps outlined in this blog post and utilizing a scourer or scrub brush, you can effectively remove impurities and maintain the performance of your filter. Enjoy your refreshed and healthy hydration experience!
